Elevate Mathematics

Tournament
for Grades 4-6
FACT SHEET for East Tennessee State University Location
Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2015
Time: 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM
Place: D.P. Culp University Center, ETSU, Johnson City, TN 37614
Tournament: Each team is composed of any five students from the same school
(or homeschool group) who are in grades 4, 5 or 6. A team may have students from different grades. There are two events: 10 individual problems
and 10 team problems. The solution or solutions to each problem will
be reviewed thoroughly. If needed, up to five tiebreaker problems will be
employed to resolve ties between individuals.
Cost: $25 per team. Up to three (3) teams will be accepted from each school
until the registration deadline, APRIL 5th. Additional teams from these
schools will then be accepted as space permits.
Chaperones: One teacher, parent, or other volunteer per school is required
and will be expected to help as needed on the day of the competition
(proctoring, scoring, etc.)
Awards: All students will receive a certificate of participation. High scorers,
both individual and team, will receive awards.
Lunch: Students and chaperones should bring their lunches and sharpened
pencils. Mid-morning snacks will be provided.
Calculators: Calculators will not be permitted for this event.

9:30 Individual Event: 10 problems, 30 minutes
10:05 Snacks and Explanation of Individual Event Solutions
11:00 Team Event: 10 problems solved cooperatively, 20 minutes
11:25 Explanations for Team Event Solutions
12:00 Lunch: Bring your own bag lunch
12:40 Tiebreakers for Individuals if necessary
1:00 Awards
1:30 Dismissal

Notes
1. We will provide food and drink for the snack break.
2. Please bring bag lunches and sharpened pencils.
3. No calculators.
4. Each Individual Event question is worth one point.
5. Each Team Event question is worth three points.
6. Total Team Score = sum of individual event scores + team event score
7. Tiebreaker questions will be given one at a time if needed to determine
top placing.
