Behind the Beautiful Forevers

Top 10 Lessons
1. These poor- against- poor riots were not spontaneous, grassroots
protest against the citys shortage of work. Riots seldom were, in
modern Mumbai. (Boo 31) This would be a life lesson. This would be a
life lesson because I feel like this sentence is telling us how poor riots
were like and how they overcame.
2. In the last five years, more than one hundred schools had opened
around the airport some excellent and expensive; some fraudulent;
some, like Manjus, taught by unqualified teenagers. But all were
understood to be better than the free schools like Marol Municipal,
where Asha was a contract teacher. Nearly 60 percent of the states
public school teachers hadnt finished college, and many of the
permanent teachers had paid large under- the- table sums to school
officials to secure their positions. The Corporator was among the
politicians who preferred to capitalize on these abysmal schools
instead of reforming them. Hed opened his own private school, using a
front man. (Boo 63) This would be a life lesson. This would be a life
lesson because I feel like this is saying some teachers didnt go to
college to get a degree thats why some schools are the way they are. I
think all teachers should go to college so they can be a better teacher
and also, so they can know what they are teaching/ doing. I think it
would be best for teachers to go to college to get the information that
they need.
3. In a 2005 deluge that brought the whole city to a standstill, Fatimas
family had lost most of what they owned, as had the Husains and many
other Annawadians.(Boo 73) This would be a life lesson. This would be
a life lesson because of how they lost their home. So I think this is
telling me people can struggle but always can get better.
4. Priya, one of the poorest girls in Annawadi, sometimes helped Fatima
cook and care for her children in exchange for food. (Boo 96) This
would be an important life lesson because, people that arent so
wealthy do what they have to do to have food on the table and to
survive in life.
5. A change would be filed, likely based on Fatimas second statement
that the Husains had beaten her and driven her to self-immolation,
which named Abdul as the most violent actor. (Boo 115) I think this
would be an important lesson because Fatima was a very poor girl and
the Husains had beaten on her and I think that people should feel bad
because she was poor and beaten on.

6. Every month that passed, he felt less sure of where he belonged

among the human traffic in the city below. Once, he had believed he
was smart and might become something- not a big something, like the
people who frequented the airport, but a middle something. (Boo 197)
I think this would be an important lesson because, its telling us how
Abdul became not much worried about things and he could overcome
somethings.
7. There was more German silver in the car park, and in the industrial
warehouses over the river. (Boo 199) I think this is kind of important
because, its saying German silver was more increased than industrial
warehouses.
8. He decided to look only at the judge. To her, he go out his account of
finding Fatima at home and taking her to the hospital. (Boo 209) I
think this would be an important lesson because its showing how
much he cared about Fatima.
