Maribel Gomez is a student at the University of California, Irvine pursuing a Bachelor of Social Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior and a Bachelor of Arts in Education Sciences, expected to graduate in June 2015. She has extensive leadership, mentoring, and community involvement experience including serving as the School Site Director for an after school mentoring program called WYSE and the Publicity Chair for Anteaters for Autism at UC Irvine. Women and Youth Supporting Each Other (WYSE) - Tustin, CA September 2014 - Present School Site Director An after school program that empowers youth to think critically about diverse variety of issues. Discussed with fellow mentors in order to create a curriculum for 8th grade mentees based on a set lesson plan. Consistent communication with the school counselor in order to collaborate about sessions. Mentor September 2013 - Present Developed meaningful mentoring relationship between college women and adolescents in underserved communities. Facilitated discussions for mentees through activities and scenarios in order to teach them about various topics. Anteaters for Autism- Irvine, CA September 2013 - Present Publicity Chair Planned sessions and events for members in order to spread awareness on autism, through volunteering and guest speakers. Collaborated with members and faculty to educate and raise awareness to the community and students on Autism. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Spirit League - Mission Viejo, CA Volunteer Aided the staff during games in order to provide a comfortable and safe environment for the children. Coached children with disabilities in order to teach teamwork by developing their skills in baseball. Helped during Skid Row trips, where food and clothes were distributed to homeless individuals in order to support those in need.
