Reefs Important?

Certain types of coral skeletons have properties, which are similar to


those found in the human bone such as their pores and channels. This
allows coral reefs to be used as bone substitutes in re-constructive bone
surgery. The pores and channels allow bone tissue and blood vessels to
spread into the coral bone substitute and eventually allow bone to replace
most of the coral implant.
