consistofthoseideals,theyarethereforecastasuselessastheycantholdunderthe
pressureoftheseexpectationstoconform.Withmanyfamiliesstillsufferingfromthe
devastationoftheWorldWarII,thespectrumofaffluencewasbroadandvaried.Jack
experiencesunwelcomefeelingsofshameandpitywhenhestealsgasfromafamilywhois
neartheedgeofpovertyteeteringclosetotheedgewithlackoffinancesandsupport.
