1. Obtain one 50 mL beaker for your group. Make sure that it is clean and dry.
2. Obtain three chocolate chips for each person in your group from the teacher.
3. Write a complete list of the properties of the chocolate chips.
(YOU MAY EAT ONE OF THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS!) Be sure to include taste in your list.

Everyone should place their remaining chocolate chips into the 50mL beaker.

5. After this, set the beaker on the wire mesh on the ring stand. Each person in your group should have
their own wooden splint.
6. Raise your hand and have your teacher light your alcohol burner.
BE SURE THAT EVERYONE IN YOUR GROUP IS WEARING THEIR GOGGLES!!!
7. Heat the beaker just until the chocolate chips melt. You will need to stir the chocolate chips with one
of the wooden splints. As soon as the chocolate chips melt, blow out the alcohol burner and place the
cap back on it.
Be careful of the chocolateIT IS HOT!!!
8. Each person should use their craft stick to obtain some of the chocolate to observe and taste.
9. Write a complete list of the properties of the melted chocolate. Don't forget taste!

10. Using the list of properties in the previous question, fill in Table 5. List the properties of the
chocolate that changed after melting and the properties that stayed the same.

that all of the explorations had in common.)
