TERRORISM IN AUSTRALIA: How real is the

threat?
The threat is real. Australian National Security says Australia is at
high risk of terrorism. This means a terrorist attack is likely to
happen at any time, anywhere. Based on recent acts of terrorism in
Australia and world wide it is no surprise we are at high risk.
As far back as the 60s Australia has seen the acts of terrorism. Fast
forward to 2001 where the world changed forever. We saw the
capability of modern terrorism, 9/11
It is evident that Australia is at high risk of terrorism with past acts
& threats and current news worldwide.
A recent act of terrorism in Australia, which made news worldwide,
was the Martin Place Sydney Siege. We saw an act of terrorism seen
in the centre of Sydney. Man Monis was a radicalised lone wolf who
had been under the watch of the federal police and18 phone calls
were made before the siege, complaining about his behaviour. He
was trying to be noticed and export his ideas, but in a terrorist form
of way. He held hostage 17 people demanding ideas he believed in.
This is one act of terrorism in Australia that demonstrates that the
threat is real, as this event only recently happened in December
2014.
Jacqui Lambie, a Tasmanian Politian was recently threatened to be
killed by IS if she doesnt convert her religion. This is another
example of the high threats of terrorism.
ISLAMIC State has named Australia as one of five main targets for
terrorist attacks- according to the SMH
The threats and acts of terrorism in Australia go on.
Since the 1978 Hilton Hotel bombing in Sydney, there have been
thirteen major Australian terrorism attacks. The rising amount of
cases is ever real and fighting in society.
In Tony Abbotts address to the nation recently, he said that we are
now posed a clear and present danger.
He explains the reality of the situation and feels we must stay
strong.
The terrorist events in Australia and worldwide should be enough to
realise Australia is at high risk of attack. This ever-growing problem
must be addressed.
How can we reduce this threat?

We can have more police monitoring the streets and social media by
preventing Australian Terrorist Organisations. We can strengthen our
laws, revisit and monitor people on bail.
We need to act now before terrorism gets out of Australias hands.
We all want to have a safe future and protect our community of the
harm terror brings.
