when France and Spain rose to power the basque country was reduced and
overtime the basque have assimilated to French and Spanish culture to a point
where only 27% of basque people still speak the Basque language.

Language as a Source of Nationalism


Basque is only spoken in the basque
country and is an isolate, Pre-Indo-European language. Basque language is an
important part of the culture of the basque people.

Origin and diffusion


The Basque people live in what is known as the Basque country located in
Northern Spain and southwestern France. The Basque people are indigenous
to the Basque country and language has not spread outside the basque
country.
