1) According to your authors, what is participative management? Please name one
advantage to this approach and disadvantage. Please explain.
Participative management is the effort to involve the employees of a company in the
decision making process. One advantage to this approach is the increase of knowledge
and information. With more knowledge and information, the diversity of experiences and
viewpoints can lead to better decisions to be made. However, one disadvantage of this
approach is groupthink. With groupthink occurring, the majority of member may accept
and/or agree with an idea but one member of the group may have a different view point
of the situation.
2) What are the differences between a task force, committee, and a problem-solving
team? Please be sure to define these based on your authors definition.
The differences between a task force, committee and a problem-solving team is that a
task force is another form of a problem-solving team; however, one or more members are
from different organizations with a variety of experiences that can lead to better
decisions. Whereas, a problem-solving team reassembles a specific issue and then
disbands when the team has achieved its goal. This is done by proactive behavior,
communication, openness, flexibility, fair play and alliance. A committee is a formal team
that has a long life span and can become a permanent in an organizations structure. A
committee usually does regular recurring tasks.
3) According to your authors, what is the ultimate goal of the team-maintenance role?
Please provide an example.

The ultimate goal of the team maintenance role is to have members work well together by
encouraging, harmonizing and compromising with one another. An example of this would
be, me trying to motivate my football teammates not to give up and to keep playing until
the last whistle blows for the game to be over.
