Description of exemplar and how it demonstrates meeting this ACEI
Standard and Element(s). This exemplar is an assessment practice on letter knowledge and
phoneme awareness. I performed this assessment on a kindergarten student
at Palisades Elementary School. I chose one student who was not from my field experience classroom and implemented an assessment on a reading component to analyze his strengths and challenges. For the letter knowledge portion, the student was instructed to identify the 26 letters of the alphabet in lowercase and uppercase and then perform the isolated sounds. For the phoneme awareness portion, the student was assessed on 8 different components. Some of the components included beginning sounds phoneme matching and final sounds phoneme matching. This exemplar addresses
ACEI Standard I. Development, learning, and motivation
Candidates know, understand, and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to development of children and young adolescents to construct learning opportunities that support individual students development, acquisition of knowledge, and motivation. This exemplar represents this standard because I was able to assess a student on his individual knowledge and development through this learning experience. 2. Reflection on my professional growth in knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to this ACEI Standard and Element(s). My knowledge on development, learning, and motivation has increased through this teaching experience. I have more knowledge on how to distribute meaningful assessments to support and motivate individuals and their development. Through the successes and challenges that the student had, I learned how to guide and support the student towards his individual growth. My skills on knowing, understanding, and using major concepts to support individual students learning has also increased. I was able to use this assessment and the requirements to analyze my students step-by-step learning progress. My student showed a great amount of success and some areas for development. I was able to reflect on insights and challenges I encountered with the assessment to discover how to further support learners in the future. My disposition on developing, learning, and motivating students through learning opportunities has increased. I understand that different instructional activities enhance student learning n
certain reading components. These assessments help teacher know where
their students are succeeding and struggling to provide more opportunities to increase their knowledge. These assessments are effective to help students face their individual challenges and support their individual growth.
