One of Baguio Cinematechs free show high quality film the

Grandmaster has swept 12 wins at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards,
including best film, best director, best leading actress, and
best supporting actor. The film broke the record for most wins
awarded to a single film at the Awards. It also won Zhang Ziyi
best actress for her role as kungfu expert Gong Er. For the same
role, she has already snagged Best Actress at the prestigious
Golden Horse Awards in Taipei as well as the Asia Pacific Film
Festival in Macau. Its main actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai was also a
hot runner for best actor.
The Grandmaster too got the price of best cinematography, best
film editing, best sound design, best original film score, best
action choreography, best costume and makeup design, and best art
direction. It has taken well over $60M worldwide after becoming a
solid domestic hit in China in 2013. It boasted dazzling visuals,
ripe melodrama and superbly orchestrated fight sequences that
rival the choreography of many a classic Hollywood musical.
The film opened with a bravura battle scene orchestrated by the
renowned Yuen Woo ping (who also appears as Ips martial arts
teacher, Chan Wah shun) in which raindrops splash
photogenically off the brim of Leungs blond hat as he single
handenly takes on a small army of attackers. The real heart,
however, lies in a brief encounder style romance between
Leungs Ip and Zhang Ziyiss Gong Er, daughter of Manchurian
grandmaster Gong Yutian, an unconsummated affair that draws us
back toward the endless yearning of in the mood for love.
Significantly, the Grandmasters most powerful sequence is an
interior duel between Ip Man and Gong Er that crosses the
boundaries of dance and waltzes into the no mans land of
forbidden love. As they parry tender blows and leap with ecstatic
dexterity, the warriors lips nearly touch a kiss caught in the
suspended animation of the recurrent slow motion that litters
cinematographer Philippe Le Sourds imposingly handsome frames
