Teachers: Ms. Stark & Ms. Portice

THIS WEEK IN PRESCHOOL

This week we are talking about zoos and the animals found in them. Children will have the
opportunity to create their own animal faces on paper plates and create their own animal in art this
week. In the block area children can create their own zoo including enclosures for animals and signs
to label them. In pretend play this week is a zoo where children can take on the role of zookeeper
and various animals. They will have the opportunity to build zoos in the block area. Children will
have the opportunity to sort animals by their characteristics and by their habitat. Children will
explore different animal noises and movements and create pictures of their favorite animal. Here
are some concepts we will be covering this week:

Zoos are special places you visit that have animals

Animals live in enclosures at the zoo
Animals can live on land, air, or water
Every animal is unique
Animals come in many sizes and textures
Zookeepers feed the animals at the zoo
Some animals live where it is hot
Some animals live where it is cold
Zoos have maps to help you find different animals
