A wedge-shaped, igneous, economically valuable
sill-like body is encountered in boreholes. The land
surface is flat and horizontal over this area and the
depths from the surface to the top and base of the
sill are given beside each borehole. Construct
structure contours for the top of the sill and for its
base, assuming that both top and bottom are
uniformly dipping (but not parallel). Shade the
area where the sill outcrops.

Note. The reason for the absence of the sill in some

boreholes could be as follows:
(a) it outcrops so that at the site of the borehole it is no
longer found as a result of erosion,
(b) the sill thins to nothing and is not found,
(c) if the absence of the sill is not due to its being eroded
away or to its thinning, it must be absent in a borehole due
to faulting. (The sill may have been upfaulted then removed
by erosion or it may have been downfaulted to such a depth
that the borehole was not deep enough to find it. There is
no map evidence given here to indicate which explanation is
the more probable.)
