2 Formulas
Circle Formulas:
Circumference of a circle : C =
- This is an alternate way to find the value of .
Area of a circle: A = 2
- This is derived from the formula of the area of a rectangle, you can find the area of
a circle by unfolding it into a series of wedges.

Volume Formulas:
Volume of a cylinder: V = r2h
- This formula is found by finding the area of the base of the cylinder and multiplying
by the height of the cylinder.
1
Volume of a pyramid: V = (B)(h)
3
- This is derived from the volume of a cube, 6 equally sized pyramids fit perfectly in a
cube.
1
Volume of a cone: V = (r2)(h)
3
- This is derived from the volume of a cylinder.
Cavalieris Principle: states that if the dimensions of two figures are congruent, then
their volumes are also congruent, even if the figures are tilted or arranged differently.
Examples:
Find the circumference and area of a circle with a diameter of 14.
-C = 14 =
1
-A = 2 if diameter is 14, radius is 2 so 7
-A =(7)2 =
Find the volume of a cylinder that has a diameter of 4 and a height of 10.
-V = r2h diameter is 4, so radius is 2
-V= (2)2(10) = 4 10 =
Find the volume of a cone that fits perfect inside a cylinder with a radius of 5 and a height of 18.
-First find volume of the cylinder V = 52 18 = 450
1
-Then we know that a cone that fits perfectly in a cylinder is 3 the size of the
cylinder so 450 3 =
Find the volume of a pyramid that fits perfectly inside a cube with a volume of 48 3 .
1
-We know that a pyramid that is 3 the size of the cube will fit perfectly inside
the cube so 48 3 =
