ICT theory statement

The classroom learning experience has changed drastically from what it was ten years ago.
The teachers were the main source for the students to receive information. Their creativity
was limited as they did not have a variety of methods that were interactive, collaborative and
engaging. However, with the advancements of technology the education sector too started to
flourish as the ICT was seen as an outlet for the students to express themselves. Hence the
incorporation of ICT into the classroom has become an excellent resource for the students
and the teacher.
In this project, the main focus was on Constructivism. Our goal was to include activities that
would be intellectual and also creatively stimulating. Some of the tasks we have incorporated
invite the students to think independently and infer the ideas according to their own
understanding. We try to promote individual decision-making as well as independent creative
thinking. As the teachers, we facilitate learning and not just deliver subject knowledge from
the teachers perspective. The exercises we have created invite students to explore their
ideas and make sense of what they are learning through their own understanding of the
characters, settings and themes. Wu et al (2011, p. 271) explains that Constructivism
focuses on the importance of socio-cultural context in understanding what occurs in the world
through social interaction and constructing knowledge. We believe our learning objectives
and the direction we have taken in this project clearly exemplifies and illustrates this
statement.
