Difference
between
Consultant and Contractor

Client,

Client:
The client is the individual or organization (of any business or contractual
configuration) who is the initiator\instigator, floats idea and the ultimate
buyer and possessor of the project.
The owner is totally responsible for the financing of the project. It is also
the person or firm who has identified the need(s) which could be resolved
by a construction project. The owner is also known by the name of
employer.
Consultant:
Consultant is meant by individual or firm who provides services relating to
engineering, design, geotechnical etc. Consultant may be an architect or an
engineer.
Contractor:
Contracting team is responsible to do work according to design and
specifications.
Following are the duties of contractor.
a Assure the work to be completed in specified time period
b Must use tools and plants (T&P) at the site of work
c Must arrange labour force
A contractor may service the project in following forms.
a) General Contractor (GC)
General contractor is responsible to actually execute the project and is
responsible to owner and consultant.

b) Sub Contractor or Specialty Contractor:


Sub contractor facilitates the general contractor for sub projects like
electricity, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), plumbing,
wood works, paints etc.
