Monaco Racing
Welcome to Monte Carlo, the home of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix,
where every year thousands of people come from all over Monaco and the world to see
these streets turn into 2.092 miles of tight turns and incredible driving skills. Started in
1929, the Circuit de Monaco is known for its outstanding F1 Circuit, considered by many
to be the grandest in the sport. After the 6 week long process of building the course in
the beautiful streets of Monte Carlo, the drivers take the streets for the race, starting
with the drive to the 90 degree St. Devote corner. From there drivers must drive uphill
and deal with long turns to the Grand Hotel, later driving through tunnels and crazy
turns to drive to the start-finish line to wait for the next lap.
Out of all the Grand Prix in the F1 calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix is probably
the most famous and glamorous out of all of them. This race is a big deal in the F1
racing world, and known as part of the triple crown of motorsports along with the Indy
500 and Le Mans 24 Hours race. Since the beginning of the Monaco Grand Prix in 1929
only one man has won the triple crown, Graham Hill, who was given the nickname Mr
Monaco for his 5 wins at the event.
Since the start of the race years ago, many people have gone onto win the
Grand Prix, including Mr. Monaco who, with 5 wins at the event, was beaten by Ayrton
Senna, with 6 wins at the event, with 5 of those 6 wins occurring back to back between
1989 and 1993. The first world championship race occurred in 1950 and won by Juan
Manuel Fangio, but did not return for five years until 1955 and has become a standout
event on the schedule since the return of the World Championship Race in 1955.
