In Kindergarten

News in Room 201

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a great


weekend!
In zoophonics we are working on long vs. short
vowel sounds in words. We are beginning to work
with 2 new words families this week the ig and
the ot word families. We are also working on the
concept of digraphs in class, we will discuss the
sh- and ph- digraph.. Digraphs can be found in the
beginning, middle, and end of words.
In handwriting, we will be working with lowercase
s & v. We are working with spaces between our
words this week in writing.
We will add the poem A Loose Tooth to our
poetry notebooks. We will add the sight words
now, have, and will to our word wall.
We will use the book Just Going to the Dentist, to
work on retelling, predicting, connecting, and
inferring while reading.
In math we are working on several concepts
including: numbers being broken into parts, and
introducing subtraction.
March is Reading Month! So we will have lots of
different reading activities throughout the
month and will learn about the author Dr. Seuss
as well!

*If you or someone you know is interested in
being a mystery reader please send in the green
form by Thursday March 5. I want to set up
dates and send home sheets by Friday March 6.
I will also send out a signup genius email to help
keep track.
* Our classroom is once again running low on glue
sticks. If you are able to donate any to our class,
it would be greatly appreciated!
* As the weather gets warmer, its important to
remember that your child comes to school
prepared to go outside for recess! The lunch
aides will be taking classes outside as long as the
temperature and wind chill is above 20. Dont
forget boots too!

Information on our next field trip to the Ann


Arbor Hands on Museum will be coming home
this week.
March is Reading Month! Dont forget to log
your minutes and send in every Friday during
the month of March!
Every Friday, you will receive an envelope with
a book for your child to keep at home. This
book is at your childs DRA level.
On Fridays I will give students an opportunity
to show if they are shoe-tying achievers!. If
they show me that they can tie their own shoes,
I will write their names on a shoe-cut out and
display it in the hallway!
