    State,theSabbath(FridayatsundowntoSaturdayatsundownandallJewishfestivals
    andholydaysareinstitutedasnationalholidaysandareadheredtobyall.Forexample
    onShabbat,atraditionaldayofrest,publictransportationissuspended,businessesare
    closed,essentialservicessuchashospitalsonlyhaveafewstaffmembersandmost
    soldiersaregrantedleave.(VisionsOfIsrael,2008)
    IsraelishometoallofJudaismsmyriadholyandhistoricsites.Oneofthemost
    wellknownspotsinIsraelIsthewesternwall,alsoknownasthewhalingwallorthe
    Kotel.TheWesternWallisthelaststandingwallofthesecondtemplethatwasdestroyed
    in70C.EbytheRomans.ThissiteisthemostholyJewishsiteasitwashometoboth
    thefirstandsecondTemples.YadVashemortheholocaustmemorialmuseumalsoholds
    greatsignificancewithabiginfluenceonthecommunityatlarge.Itwasestablishedin
    1953.TherearevarioussitesinIsraelthatareholytoChristianity.Oftheseinclude
    whereJesuswasborn,livedand,taughtandDied,theViaDolorosa,theroomofthelast

    Zionism;amovementforthereestablishmentandthedevelopmentand
    protectionofaJewishnationinwhatisnowIsrael.Zionismwasnotareligious
    movementbutrather,primarilypolitical.TheearlyZionistssoughttoestablishasecular
    stateofIsrael,recognizedworldwide,purelythroughlegalmeans.EarlyZionistswereso
    desperateforarefugeatonepointthattheyactuallyconsideredaproposaltocreatea
    JewishhomelandinUganda.AlaskaandSiberiawerealsodiscussed.Buttheonlyland
    thattrulyinspiredJewishpeopleworldwidewasourancienthomeland,atthattimeapart
    oftheOttoman(Turkish)EmpireknownasPalestine.Today,Jewsareinpoliticalcontrol
    oftheholyland,thoughnonJewswhobecomecitizensofIsraelhavethesamelegal

    raisedJewish.GrowingupinAmerica,insteadifIsraelIoftenexperiencedanti
    Semitism.HoweverthingsareverydifferentinIsrael.Judaismbeingtheprominent
    religion,itisthenorm,itisaccepted.IhopeonedayIgettotraveltoIsraeltoexperience
    thisformyself.
