FRIENDLY CLASSROOM
THROUGH RULES AND
ROUTINES

protect against cultural exclusion and insensitivity.

mutual respect toward all students
Rules must be fair

Setting ground rules for

multicultural interaction
To deal conflict issue
Can be made through discussion of students concerns about multicultural issues &
the general forms & expectation
For example:
Students write their greatest concern about multicultural issue.
Then students are divided into groups.
Each group need to read the concern & discuss on how they can establish a norm or
ground rules for the concern.
Then, the ground rules are printed & shared to the whole class.

Use a communication style that is consistent

with the values of students cultures.
For example, Mexican-American children need to teacher to establish a
caring relationship, with them. Reinforcing norms of politeness and respect,
as defined by the childs culture, is effective in creating this environment,
which leads to more learning. Each culture has its own learning style and
standards. Taking the time to identify these different styles will help you
tailor your curriculum to your students

Ask students to share.

Encourage them to speak from their own experiences and share information about
