This paper describes structural aspects of the rehabilitation of a

reinforced concrete, industrial building from the 1970s that was recycled
into the new head-office of the Swiss Graduate School of Public
Administration (IDHEAP). Major structural rehabilitation works included:
1) The definition of the new interior patio (changes in the roof steel
structure)
2) The change of spans in reinforced concrete prestressed flat slab for
accommodating a new auditorium
3) The increase of the punching shear capacity of the slab by means of
enlarged steel column heads

CONCLUSIONS

By means of a case study, structural aspects of the

rehabilitation of a RC industrial building into the new
IDHEAP are presented.

IC

Described techniques were successfully applied,

resulting in high quality building. Full demolishing
and rebuilt costs are avoided, with consequent
significant savings.
