Dear Gavin Hood:
The movie Enders Game, adapted from the book Enders Game in my opinion was a
great success. Even when some parts of the movie were diverse from the book, I think
some of these changes added to the success of the movie. I had recently read the
Enders Game book hoping that the book was similar to the movie that I had watched
previously. I was surprised to find that the book was very different from the movie. I am
writing to inform you of some major changes in the movies storyline and how these
changes affected the movie, Enders Game.
I was surprised to find that Ender went to battle school at the age of six rather than an
older boy as he had been portrayed in the movie. I found it easier to empathize with
the older Ender, whom was used in the movies, rather than the 6-year-old Ender. I think
that this positively affected the movies popularity.
The movie also did not pursue the lives of Valentine and Peter, as the book did. I did
not think that the online campaign of Valentine and Peter was necessary to the book,
as it did not relate to Enders goal. Another reason it should not have been added to
the book is because it would be hard to portray in the movie. This change also
positively affected the movies popularity.
Another significant change I noticed was that the emphasis on Enders isolation did not
seem as prominent in the movie, although this isolation seemed crucial in the book, to
Enders victory over the buggers. Having this omitted from the movie definitely did not
add to the success of the movie. If the emphasis on Enders isolation were to be
included in the movie, it would make more sense and add to the empathy felt toward
the character. This crucial aspect should have been a part of the Enders Game movie.
Overall I enjoyed the movie. In order to improve this movie the isolation of Ender
should have been prominent, as it would help the audience understand Enders
pressure to beat the buggers, which would enhance the movie. Although some
changes may not have improved the movie, the majority of the changes did expand
the storyline and popularity of the movie. Thanks for all of your hard work in helping to
make this movie, as it will entertain and inspire many people.
Sincerely,
