PLANNING STUDIES

Types of Planning Studies


Corridor studies
- compare alternative ways of
providing transportation in corridor.
Subarea studies
- similar to corridor studies ,except
that they focus on areas that are less linear
than transportation corridor.

Alternatives analyses for major


transportation investments
- studies comparing alternative locations or
systems for such major investments as new
airports, rail transit systems, or major urban
freeway
Institutional studies
- studies exploring alternative institutional
arrangement for carrying out transportation
programs.

Financial studies
- studies of alternative ways of
financing transportation program.

Impact studies
- These are usually before-and-after
studies to determine the impact of major
transportation investment (such as new rail
rapid transit systems) on such things as
land development or travel behavior.

PLANNING STUDY ORGANIZATION


1. Preparation of a request for proposals
(RFP) or problem statement.
2. Preparation of proposal or a work plan.
4. Study organization.

collection.
5. Analysis of data.
6. Report preparation.
7. Coordination between client and
consultant.
