Must and Mustnt

Must is used to say that something is


necessary to be done.
You must go now or youll be late.

Mustnt (i.e. must not) is used to say that


something is not allowed to be done.
She mustnt say such a thing to older
people. It is impolite.

Participle Phrases (1)


The present participle can be used to
replace a relative clause in the active
voice.

The house which is standing at the foot


of the hill belongs to the royal family.
The house standing at the foot of the
hill belongs to the royal family.

The past participle can be used to
replace a relative clause in the
passive voice.

The Thames River, which is situated


between East London and West
London, flows into the sea.
The Thames River, situated between
East London and West London, flows
into the sea.
