Math This week students started the week by taking their Topic 14
test. Scores were pretty good across the board. That is the first, big grade
in the gradebook. We worked the rest of the week on writing and solving
equations. We will continue this unit when we return from Spring Break.

Reading

For the week after spring break our reading story is Ghost
Towns of the American West. We will read about boom towns and why they
became ghost towns. We will practice the reading skill of generalizing and
question.

Grammar The next grammar skill will be identifying indefinite and

reflexive pronouns.

Writing Students worked hard to finish their DARE essays which

were due Thursday. We will find out who the class essay winner is after
break sometime. The essay winner from each class will read their essay at
the DARE graduation on Tuesday, April 14. After break, we will begin our
state report presentations. It will take us a little over a week to get
through them all.

Spelling The next spelling list is full of words with Greek word parts.
PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! With around a week and a half to
study, I expect to see good scores! www.spellingcity.com/triton5

Social Studies We just started working on chapter 9. We have

been discussing the Declaration of Independence and its effects, the Articles of Confederation and what it entailed, and about how women and minorities helped out in the war.

Science Students reviewed the lessons previously taught by creating

a small project. They researched an organism and made a powerpoint with

the organisms classification, food chain, food web, adaptations, and habitat. This will help us review for the test that will begin studying for right
after break.

Note From the Teacher:

Paperwork went home last week about Camp Amigo. Please ensure that the medical form, the lunch choice form, and money is turned in no later than Friday, April 10. After spring break I will be sending home an announcement for all chaperones about a mandatory chaperone meeting for our trip to share important information.
D.A.R.E. graduation is Tuesday, April 14 at the High School Auditorium. The ceremony will begin at 11:15 a.m. You are welcome to attend, but we understand that with it
being during the day that might not be possible. For this reason, teachers will be photographing the event and posting the pictures on their websites for parents to view.
Have a wonderful and relaxing spring break. Lets get rejuvenated to finish our
year strong!
