Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born January 24, 1954 to Vernon Winfrey and Vernita
Lee Winfrey, in Kosciusko Mississippi. Oprah has two siblings named Patricia Lloyd and
Jeffrey Lee. Her mother was a maid and her father was a coal miner that didnt make a
lot of money. Oprahs family were not rich or even in the middle class, they struggled to
pay their pills and and keep their kids fed.
Oprah finally got out of that small town and moved to pursue her career. After
many years of looking for the right job she finally found it. Oprah signed a contract for
her talk show to be produced and aired. The Oprah Winfrey Show was aired in
September of 1986. She also married the man she is still with today that same year,
Stedman Graham. Since the first season of her talk show was such a big success she
got signed to do another season. Her show kept getting bigger and bigger. On May 25
of 2011 Oprahs final show aired after 25 seasons of making people happy and smile
and giving back.
After The Oprah Winfrey Show ended Oprah got signed to make her own TV
network, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). She also moved to Chicago, Illinois in a condo
worth 7.75 million dollars and started to pursue her acting career. Oprah has been in
many starring roles, including The Butler, Selma, The Color Purple, The Hundred Foot
Journey, and many other movies. She also pursued her writing career too. Oprah has
published seven books.
Oprah has received many awards, including the Kennedy Center Honors given to
people for their role in the performing arts. She has also been awarded the Peabody

Award given to a person for their public service. Oprah has been awarded many other
rewards during her lifetime.
