DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF HAY BALE LIFTER

ABSTRACT
Hay bale lifter is one of the material handling equipments used to lift and
lower the load. It helps a dairy farmer for lifting the load (hay bales) in to the barn
loft. Worm gears are used to transmit power between two intersection shafts which
are right angels to each other. The gear box output shaft is coupled to the winch
drum shaft. The drum acts as a capstan around which is wound a rope that has
forged hook at its end. The farmer can lift the hay bales with little effort. This is
caused by gear ratios inside the lifter. Thus it simplifies lot of load lifting works. It
can be easily operated by an amateur. A lifter can be built as one integral-package
unit, designed for cost-effective purchasing and moderate use, or it can be built as a
built-up custom unit, designed for durability and performance.
