SOME - it indicates an indefinite quantity (qualche, un po,

alcuni).
USE

1.We use "some" in positive sentences.


I have some friends.
2. In questions when offering or requesting something
can i have some water, please?
would you like some cake?

ANY
1. We use "any" in negative sentences or questions.
Do you have any cheese?
He doesn't have any friends in Chicago.
Are there any eggs in the fridge?
There isnt any butter left.

2. You can use any in a positive sentence only with the meaning "it doesn't matter
which".
Which book do you want? Any will do (qualunque andr bene).
which song can I play? any song.

would you like some coffee?


there are some biscuits in the box
he doesnt want to eat anything
can i have some sugar please?
do you have any questions?
you can take any bus. they all go to the centre.

Compound nouns with some- and any- are used in the same way as
some and any.
somebody -> qualcuno
something -> qualcosa
somewhere -> da qualche parte
anybody -> qualcuno, chiunque
anything -> qualcosa
anywhere -> da qualche parte
nobody -> nessuno
nothing ->niente
nowhere -> da nessuna parte
everybody -> ognuno, tutti
everything -> ogni cosa
everywhere -> dovunque

she wants to buy something for her mother.
But she isnt finding anything.
