Intelligent color calibration

Overview
HP continues to refine and improve color calibration. With intelligent color calibration, the printer
provides color output that is consistent from page to page, regardless of the time between print jobs
or the printing environment.

How does it work?

Calibrations occur at set intervals, are designed to maximize printer availability, and may be initiated
automatically or manually from the control panel. Automatic calibration occurs:
When the printer is powered on, if the fuser temperature is below 122 F (50 C).
Note

If the fuser temperature is above 122 F (50 C) when the printer is powered on, calibration
does not occur. Checking fuser temperature prevents unnecessary calibrations from occurring
when the engine has been powered down for only a short time.

When sending a print job or pressing the Ready button on the control panel after the printer has
been in the Powersave state for over eight hours.
When a print cartridge is replaced.
At specified intervals required to maintain optimal print quality. After exchanging cartridges (or
initial startup of the engine) the initial calibration of the engine occurs, then another calibration
occurs at 250 pages, again at 500 pages, and then every 1,000 pages thereafter.
When the printer experiences a large change in temperature and humidity.
Calibration generally lasts 135 seconds and will not interrupt a typical print job, to ensure maximized
productivity. If the calibration is requested from the control panel the calibration may last up to 5
minutes 15 seconds.
All calibrations are designed to produce the fastest, most efficient printing for the user. For HP Color
LaserJet 3000 and 3800 series printers, automatic morning calibrationwhich occurs when the
printer is recalled from Powersave modeis delayed 15 minutes to allow the first jobs to print without
interruption. For the HP Color LaserJet 3600 series printer, automatic morning calibration is delayed
until after the first print job.
