SOLID TO A LIQUID

The process is called melting.

During this phase change, ice gains energy. Molecules vibrate more quickly because he
substance is absorbing energy.

LIQUID TO A SOLID
The process is called freezing.

In this phase the particles become more organized and starts to move slower. This process

releases energy because the particles slow down.

LIQUID TO GAS
This process is called vaporization.
It takes place at the surface and occurs at temperatures below the substances boiling point.
The substance must absorb energy to change from a liquid to a gas.

GAS TO A LIQUID
This process is called condensation.

It takes place when water vapor in the air condenses from a gas, back into a liquid form, and
leaves the atmosphere, returning to the earths surface.
The process releases energy.

SOLID TO GAS
This process is called sublimation.
During the phase change the substance will be getting warmer and start to change right away to
a gas, without going through the liquid state, the atoms will be vibrating and starts to move
closer and vibrate more freely.

It releases energy.

GAS TO SOLID
This process is called deposition.

When a gas/vapor changes directly into a solid without first changing a liquid.

It releases energy.
