Solid

Liquid

During the phase change of a solid to a liquid the particles in the solid start to
absorb energy and become less organized. The particles start to move faster and soon
begin to slide past each other. This process is known as melting.

Liquid

Solid

During this phase change the particles in the liquid start to release energy, which
causes the particles to become more organized. The particles start to move a lot slower
and soon start to vibrate. This process is known as freezing.

Liquid

Gas

During this phase change the particles start to absorb energy, which causes the
particles to become very spread out. The particles start to move a lost faster and soon
move around freely. This process is known as evaporation.

Gas

Liquid

During this phase change the particles start to release energy which causes the
particles to become more organized. The particles start to move slower and soon start
to slide past each other. This process is known as condensation.

Solid

Gas

During this phase change the particles start to absorb energy, which causes the
particles to gradually speed up and become less and less organized . When the
particles start to move faster they begin to slide past each other, then start to move
around freely. This process is known as sublimation.

Gas

Solid

During this phase change the particles start to Release energy, which causes the
particles to gradually slow down and become more and more organized. When the
particles start to slow down they start to slide past each other, then begin to vibrate.
This process is known as deposition.
