Legislation To Protect Pregnant Women in The Workplace Clears Another House Committee Unanimously
Unanimously
Santa Fe, NM Legislation that will protect pregnant women in the workplace and ensure that New Mexico
meets federal guidelines passed the House Business and Employment Committee by a unanimous 100 vote. Rep. Terry McMillan, of Las Cruces, is the sponsor.
This legislation balances our desire to protect pregnant women in the workplace as well as the economic
needs of our small businesses," McMillan said. "I look forward to voting for this bill on the House floor."
The legislation makes employers provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers, such as more
flexibility with their schedules, shorter hours or leave time.
The legislation mirrors language from the Federal American with Disabilities Act. It ensures that a womans job
is protected while she is pregnant, while at the same time allowing her to look after her health.
