Lagaans most interesting character was Elizabeth Russell. First of all, Elizabeth
loved Bhuvan, despite being from a different culture and country. This added a new
effect to the movie, and created a love triangle that became quite interesting throughout
the whole movie. Secondly, Elizabeth betrayed her brother and her country to help the
underprivileged villagers of Champaner. They didnt know how to play cricket, and
against all odds, she went to their village to help them learn, so they could beat the
British. Finally, Elizabeth gave up her love for Bhuvan at the end of the movie, after
seeing Gauri with Bhuvan. An act such as this stands out in the entire movie, as
Elizabeth went through so much trouble to just meet Bhuvan, but in the end was
rejected by him. Because she loved Bhuvan, betrayed the British, and gave up her
love, Elizabeth Russell is the most interesting character in Lagaan.
