Councilmember David Alvarez issued a statement praising the San Diego City Council's approval of a proposed permanent homeless shelter that would replace the city's temporary winter tent shelter. Alvarez had advocated for four years for a permanent solution instead of the tent shelter in Barrio Logan. While removing the tent is encouraging, Alvarez said it is just one step and thanked Councilmember Todd Gloria for his leadership on the issue and the community members who have been impacted and provided their voices.

Alvarez on Approval of Permanent Homeless Shelter
SAN DIEGO (March 24, 2015) Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement in response to the San Diego City Councils approval today of the proposed year-round housing facility for the homeless that would replace the city of San Diego's temporary winter tent shelter: Ive been advocating for a permanent solution ever since I was elected to the City Council. After four years of speaking out against the tent in Barrio Logan, I am very pleased that it finally made a difference. While it is certainly encouraging to see the tent removed and a shelter identified, this is only one step of many in the right direction. I would like to thank Councilmember Todd Gloria for his leadership on this issue and to all the members of the community that have been impacted and have provided their voice and concerns to the Council. ###
