Fairy tales themed story that incorporates solving algebraic

equations and in equations in it.
Problem Solving
1. James age is 3 times older than his son. The total of James and
his sons ages is 112 years. Find James age.
Answer:
Step 1: You need to represent or put x as the son.

Step 2: So James age should be 3x because in the text it said,

James ages are equal to 3 time of his son.
Step 3: The total of James and his son ages is 112 years.
To solve this equation: 3x + x = 112
4x = 112
x = 28
As you can see, his son age is 28 and so we have to multiple it by 3.
So 3 X 28 = 84
84 are James ages.
2. There is a group of farmers farming with each other. If the total of the cow and the
farmers are 36, however the total of the cow and the farmers has 100 foots. Find the
farmers and find how many cows there is.
Answer:
Step 1: Put x to represent the farmers. Each farmer has 2 feet, so we need to
put it as 2x.

Step 2: 36 x

so cow have 4 feet, then 4(36-m)

To solve this equation: 2x + 4(36-x) = 100

2x + 144 4x = 100
-2x = 100 144
-2x = -44
x = 44/2
x = 22
So now to find the number of cows is 36 22 = 14.
There are 22 farmers and 14 cows.

3. The last time Sam sold the bread was 500 Riel each. If Sam wanted to make an
18% profit for each piece of bread then how much would Sam sell the bread for?
Answer:
Step 1: Put x to represent the new price he would sell

Step 2: We take x 500

Step 3: Compare the new price and the original price x-500/500
Step 4: Think about the percentage of the new price by 18/100
To solve this equation:
x 500/500 = 18/10
100x 50000 = 9000
100x = 9000 + 50000

100x = 59000
x = 59000/100
x = 590
Now Sam has the new price so that he will make 18% profits. The new price is 590
Riel, so hell make 90 riel as his profits.
4. There is a guy name Ken. On March 26 2015 there is a big test on Languages, and
Humanity. So he had finished the test and got 82 points and 89 points. How much
more points does Ken need to get on his Math test, so that the average points get a
least on three of those test.
Answer:

Step 1: Take x to represent the points of Math test

Step 2: 82+89+x>/ 90
3
Step 3: 82+89+x>/ 90x3
Step 4: 171+x>/ 270
Step 5: x>/ 270-171
Step 6: >/ 99
So now as you can see Ken need a least 99 points.
