9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

9(b): The teacher engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with
his/her own needs and the needs of learners, school, and system.

During my student teaching experience,

I had the opportunity to attend professional
development days. During professional development we met in content area groups within
the district and created pre-assessments for the
first semester. These pre-assessments would be
used in conjunction with the mid-term exam
and serve as the assessment to show student
growth. The pre-assessment is a district wide
assessment all of the 7th grade teachers in the
district provided in put into creating the assessment.
We also attended a conference day as a
district. The conference was entitled Level
Up: Taking Learning to the Next Level. The
overall theme was incorporating technology
effectively in the classroom. The keynote
speaker was Adam Bellow
who is the founder of
EduClipper and
EduTeacher. Mr. Bellow
provided an inspiring
presentation on the effective use of technology and
how it can be used to engage students and motivate them to love the
learning process.
We also attended
conferences that instruct-

ed us on how to
use the TI 84
Plus calculators
in the classroom.
The conference
provided useful
tips on how to
teach students
the proper use of
the calculator.
We also learned
how to use a
TI-84 Plus Calculator
downloadable program that can
provide key sequences for the students when
computing using the calculator.
Overall, the professional development
days provided a plethora of
ideas and technological resources that could be used
to enhance student learning
and growth. Professional
development also provided
a great opportunity to network and learn from fellow
colleagues. The overall
thrust of the professional
development days were to
use technology to better
meet the needs of diverse
learners.

Reflection
While attending professional development during student teaching I learned valuable skills from master educator presentors as well as from colleagues. I will used these learned skills in the future to help
support learners through the learning process.
