Steven Thomas was a student in the Teacher Preparation program at the Urban
Institute for Teacher Education (UITE), at the University of Utah. | was Steven's
supervisor for his student teaching experience, as well as his instructor for
several courses during his college experience.
Steven did a wonderful job during his student teaching experience. He was
assigned to a third grade classroom in an at-risk school in Granite School
District. From the very beginning, Mr. Thomas took advantage of every teaching
opportunity and continued to improve his skills during the eight-month
experience.
| was very impressed with the skills that Steven developed as a teacher. Of
particular note, was the establishment of Mr. Thomas’s consistent classroom
management skills. In fact, he displayed many skills that you would see in an
effective seasoned teacher. He was pleasant, consistent, and organized,
creating a nurturing third grade atmosphere. Steven displayed solid lesson
planning skills. He was very thorough and creative during all lessons | observed
He developed a wonderful rapport with the students and established consistent
procedures.
Steven completed all assignments in a timely manner, even with the busy
schedule of a student teacher. His confidence level is high and he puts in all the
necessary work to develop his teaching skills, always wanting to improve
I highly recommend that Steven Thomas be hired as an elementary school
teacher. | would have no hesitation in placing Steven in charge of a classroom.
He will meet every challenge because he is already a wonderful teacher.
