Helping

the
Environment
Plan your menu and
only buy the things on
your menu.
Only order what you
can eat at restaurants.
Any food that is safe,
nutritious, and
untouched can be
donated to food
banks.
Compost your food
scraps instead of
throwing them away.
All of these things
save money, save
energy, and lowers
your carbon footprint.

April 22

Earth Day
Sarah

History

Earth Day originally started in 1970. It was an Environmental Movement.

The founder: Gaylord Nelson was a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. He
didnt like the giant 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California and wanted
to do something about it so with some help he built a staff of 85 people to
promote an earth-friendly environment. As a result on April 22, 20 million
people helped to make a healthy environment.

Recycle: Clean paper, aluminum

cans, plastic bottles (with the
tops off), and clean dairy tubs

If you recycle one

aluminum can that will save
enough energy that is
equal to having the T.V. on
for three hours.

Compost: Food scraps and

things that are organic

Each ton of paper that is

recycled will save 17 trees.

Reuse: Donate the things you

dont want anymore to places
that take things like that.

Turn the lights off when

you leave the room or use
daylight instead.
