[FUNDAMENTALS OF SDH AND OPTICAL FIBER ENGINEERING]

Due to the rapid increase in the numbers of 66/11 kV substations and the
expansion in Cairo Electrical Network; we need to add new 8 substations to the
existing Telecommunication Network. It was decided to make one new ring
including all the 8 substations, the master node (Cairo), and the backup node
(Giza) as shown in the figure below.

The aim of this project is to provide fiber optic terminal equipment with access
multiplexer interfaces for connecting the new (8) 66/11 kV substations to the
existing telephone and data networks.

In Cairo Master Station there are:

Exchange, Packet Assembler and Disassembler (PAD), and Packet Switch (PS).

In Giza Backup Station there are:

Exchange, PAD, and RTU.

Required Services:
(A) For each 66/11 KV substation we need
1- Five (2 wire) telephones lines: 3 from the Cairo Exchange and 2 From
Giza Exchange.
2- Two port (RS232) For RTU: one to the Cairo PAD and one to Giza
PAD.
(B)For Giza substation
1- Three (2 wire) telephone lines from the Cairo Exchange.
2- One port (RS232) for the RTU to Cairo PAD.

(C)Between Cairo and Giza

1- Four ISDN (2B+D) Trunks lines between the two local exchanges.
2- Two ports (RS422) between Giza PAD and Cairo PS.
(D)Protection
1- Equipment protection (1+1) for all of :
Power supply units for both of the optical terminal equipment and
the primary multiplexer.
Control units for both of the optical terminal equipment and the
primary multiplexer.
2- Line Protection :
Two fiber unidirectional SNCP protection ring.
(E)Synchronization
Configure the Cairo node as a master node to provide master clock for the
ring using PRC external clock.
(F)Optical Interfaces (SFP)
For all fiber optic equipments select the proper optical interface (SFP) with
regarding to the links power budget calculations.

You will use the XMP1 as PDH MUX and OMS1240 as SDH MUX
You need to provide the following:
1. Network Logical Design Schematic for the required services with a
capacity planning.
2. Network Physical Design Schematics including:
Cabinet for Main Station (Cairo).
Cabinet for Backup Station (Giza).
Cabinet for Remote Stations.
Main Distribution Frame (MDF) for (XMP1 and OMS1240) Cards in
each previous Cabinets.
3. STM Frame Schematic.
4. Main and backup E1s distributions.
5. Plan for each E1s Services to be carried.
6. Protection and Synchronization Schematic.
