Students Summary

Since there is such a diverse learning population in the classroom, there are
accommodations made for both lower and higher level learners. I also need to
accommodate for those students who learn material in different ways. Throughout my
lessons I use many different activities that cater to the needs of visual, auditory, and
kinesthetic learners. In my lessons I talk a lot about the material and I tell stories, which
cater to the auditory learners. Specifically for the visual learners, I use a lot of pictures
and videos to help those students learn. Finally, for the kinesthetic learners, I use a lot of
real life examples where students are getting up and moving around in the classroom to
complete tasks. They also have an assignment where they will have to physically search
for something in their household. For the lower level students who are not on grade level,
I make many accommodations to ensure that they have the best opportunity to succeed.
First, each lower level learner is given a note-taking guide that correlates with the
information that is being taught. This note-taking guide also has many graphics that will
appeal to those students who are ELL or who have special needs. There is also other
accommodations made for special education students who have difficulty writing. They
will have the option of typing their work. For the higher-level learners, they get the
option of choosing from a list of different activities given on a choice board. This ensures
that the gifted students are being challenged, so that they can be fully engaged in the
activity. The students are able to complete this activity in free time at the end of the day
or for homework. The students are able to show the teacher the work they have done and
are be able to share some assignments with classmates. Throughout the lessons, I use a
variety of groupings. A lot of times I use the turn and talk strategy, so that students can

collaborate with another student in the classroom. The students are already strategically
sitting with a partner in the class that I have chosen for them. The students are also split
up for group work for reciprocal teaching, and I make sure to place students in groups
that will encourage their learning. I already have these groups picked out before I even
start the lesson. I motivate and engage the students through the engagements that I use.
Some of my engagements include videos or real life examples. The students are also
engaged through many questions throughout the lesson to help access prior knowledge
and relate the information. To ensure that students with varying backgrounds are
accommodated, I make sure not to assume that they already know things. This is why I
give the students a lot of background information on pollution and natural resources. That
way I dont assume that they already know simple facts about our environment and
sustaining natural resources.

Plan for Individual Learners

Lower Level Learners
The students will be given
visual aids to help them to
better understand the
different types of pollution.
They will also be able to
explore more videos and kid
friendly websites that talk
about pollution. They will
also be given a hard copy of
the vocabulary words for
the unit.
The students will be given
an activity where they get to
answer True or False to
statements saying if they are
a good way to reduce waste
or conserve energy instead
of coming up with their own
sentences.
These students will be
allowed to receive help
from their parents when
completing the reuse objects
at home worksheet. I will
also watch them during the
formative assessment to see
if they need further
clarification.
Students will receive
passages that will be on a
lower reading level. They
will also be given another
practice activity on
recycling. They will also
receive a recycling graphic
organizer to help them
understand recycling and
the materials that can be
recycled.
Students will be given more
practice sorting out the
three Rs. They will also be
given more visual aids, to
help them keep the three
