Clearly define the aim of the poster
What are you wanting people to know, understand
and/ or do?
What type of message are you wanting to deliver
for e.g. is it to challenge mindsets and ways, is it
purely to inform & give facts and/ or does it
provoke the reader to act upon the message etc
What are the desired effects of this poster?

Target Audience
Decide who your target audience is

Does your message suit your target audience?

Is the message relevant to their lives and age group?


Is the message appropriate to the age group and culture
of your chosen audience?

Language
Use language that is appropriate & relevant

Is the language youre using suited to the target


audience?
Is the wording precise, to the point and easily
understood?
Is the wording visible and clearly seen from a distance?

Good use of visuals


Visuals must support the message and reflect the section of
society it is aimed at

Do your visuals reflect the message?


Are the visuals appropriately used in the poster?
Do the visuals/ pictures suit your target audience
for e.g. age, gender, culture?
Do your visuals support & enhance the poster?

Layout
Its important to design & arrange your poster
Is there appropriate spacing between words/
pictures etc?
Is the content clearly seen from a distance?
Are the items set out in a way to direct your focus
to a specific place or item on the poster?

Poster placement
Choose display spots that your target audience
regularly visit
Choose a range of places to display your posters
Seek permission to display your posters
Place your posters where people are able to view
them clearly

Expected Response
Have desired outcomes in mind
What types of responses are you wanting from
people?
Would you like people to contact you for more
information or support?
Do you want people to feel a certain way?

Overall appearance
Have an idea as to what the end product will look like

Is it pleasing to the eye?


Is the message clear and to the point?
Do the visuals complement the message?
Does the poster appeal to its target audience?
