Attention: All Parents and Students
We will no longer be allowing charges for lunches after

Tuesday, April 7th

All balances need to be paid in full by the end of the school year.
1. TEACHER REQUESTS for the 2015-2016 school year are now being taken in the Keicher office. We
will continue to take requests during the month of April. We have a super teaching staff at Keicher
Elementary, and are excited at the variety of teaching styles we can offer our students. Requests must
be written and have an educational reason to be considered for the placement. As much as we are able,
we will honor requests made, but there are no guarantees. The deadline is April 30, 2015.
2. PRESCHOOL Michigan Center Preschool has a few openings left for the 2015-2016 school year. We
have 3 and 4 year -old tuition classes open to any child from any district. Our 4 year- old state funded
program is free for families that meet the criteria set by the State Scholarship Program. For more
information or to enroll your child, contact Kim at 764-3380. Hurry classes are filling up fast.
3. ATTENDANCE is a very important part of the academic process. Please stress to your student the
importance of being in school and getting to class on time. This is something that will carry them

JCISD Math & Science Centers Family Engineering to return to Sugar and
Shearing Festival
JACKSON, Mich. The Jackson County Intermediate School Districts Mathematics and Science Center
will host Family Engineering from 12:00pm-4:00 pm on Sunday, March 29, during the annual Sugar
and Shearing Festival at Ella Sharp Museum, 3225 4th St, Jackson, MI 49203.

Students of all ages and their families are invited to the museums Community Room to participate in
free, hands-on, collaborative, and creative activities that highlight features and skills related to
engineering. Attendees can also receive up to four free meal tickets (sponsored by JAMA) per family for
participating in the activities.
These types of activities are wonderful for both parents and kids to take part in, said Kristie Morris,
director of the Jackson County ISDs Math and Science Center and coordinator of the event. The
parents are able to watch and join their kids as they complete the tasks, and it takes some of the fear
and unknown out of the word engineering.
During the day, families can participate in a total of 13 hands-on activities such as What Do Engineers
Do? during which participants worked to discover the range of work engineers complete; Mining for
Chocolate, where participants examined the most effective ways to remove chocolate chips from
cookies; and Team Up, a family activity requiring teamwork to assemble a structure despite various
engineering challenges.
Families will also have the chance to team up to build the tallest tower, invent new uses for common
"engineered" objects, and form assembly lines to efficiently put together a simple ink pen.
