Dear Pam,
This letter discusses the chosen organization, audience, purpose, components, and research
procedures for my media kit. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is a nonprofit organization
that seeks to increase awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease nationwide. My
major project will represent NKFs Pittsburgh office, The National Kidney Foundation Serving
the Alleghenies (NKFALL). To uphold NKFs mission, NKFALL manages various programs and
local fundraising events in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I would like to distribute my
media kit at one of these events, namely Pittsburghs Kidney Gift of Life Gala. The kit will
educate the press primarily about the Gala and its purpose, but also about NKFALL and kidney
disease.
The media kit will include a cover letter describing the kits purposes and components. My
revised fact sheet and straight news press release will inform the press about NKFALL. I also
plan to create a brochure describing the organizations programs and events. Other pieces will
focus predominantly on the Gala itself. My revised feature story, which profiles one of the Gift
of Life honorees, will help communicate the Galas purpose. I plan to create an event program
detailing things like the event schedule, menu, and contributors. Last, a photo sheet with captions
will showcase selected silent auction items. To revise and create these pieces, I will use
secondary resources such as newspaper articles and press releases. Ideally, Ill find information
about past Kidney Gift of Life Galas, both in Pittsburgh and elsewhere. I also intend to conduct
research on galas in general, and determine how to develop and implement this sort of event.
Additionally, I will conduct primary research using NKFALLs website and print marketing
materials.
