UNI New Development Scholarship Fact Sheet
The University of Northern Iowa provides a new scholarship to increase enrollment of minority
students. In previous years, the institution has lacked in diversity on campus and this new
scholarship program will offer an incentive by making the funds available for students. The
monies are made available from a special $18 million appropriation approved by the state
legislature and allow for $6,000 per semester to qualifying students. The scholarship could
potentially benefit 2,000 freshman students beginning in the fall semester of 2015.
Scholarship Requirements:
Students must have a 2.5 grade point average in high school (based on a 4.0 scale).
Students must come from a family with an annual household income of $40,000 or less.
Applications must be submitted no later than March 15 of the year they plan to enroll.
UNI has a goal of increasing minority recruitment in the next four years by 400 students
to reach 18 percent minority undergraduate enrollment.
Blacks and Hispanics each make up three percent of the universitys enrollment.
Other races each make up two percent or less of the universitys enrollment.
