Metairie, La 70005 504-826-5599 Toni.Charles@asu.edu March 22, 2015 Crescent City Schools 3811 N. Galvez Street New Orleans, La 70117 Dear Hiring Professionals, I am interested in applying for a teaching position for your program during the 2015-2016 school year . My focus is early childhood and elementary education. I learned about your program while visiting your website and I truly believe in your idea and values of providing open enrollment with your charter schools because this is paving the way towards a more equitable education for students. As a 2015 graduate, with a degree in Educational Studies from Arizona State University, I previously attended Xavier University of Louisiana. My degree program has allowed me the opportunity to experience not only silent observations, but hands on experience in several kindergarten and first grade classes in public and charter schools within New Orleans. It is obvious that the times are changing and so are the traditional types of schooling. This is something that I see with the expansion of charter schools throughout New Orleans. Allowing parents the opportunity and power to determine what school their child attends shows advancement in educational reform. I believe that this growth and transition into an all charter district calls for educators who have the passion to reach and teach each child. As a new educator, I feel that a position in your elementary school will allow me to transition as well. In doing away with traditional schools, I find it to absolutely necessary to encourage diversity in the classroom by using non traditional ways of teaching and learning such as integrating technology in the classroom as early as kindergarten. My observation experience allowed me to see how technology savvy my kindergarten class was and helped with lessons that allowed for technology integration. My focus is to be an educator that can bridge the gap with traditional styles of teaching and learning with world advancements. There has to be diversity in the classroom. As the world changes, so does the way the youth take in information. My experience in the classroom has shown me that creativity, individuality, as well as content integration are all essential when teaching. I believe my empathy and understanding along with my experience would be an asset to your school. I know that I can help to be a part of a positive transition with the legacy that the city and your school are building. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
