Week of March 23, 2015

Monday:

Standards:
W.3.1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
W.3.1.A: Introduce the topic or text they are writing about, state an opinion, and create an organizational
structure that lists reasons.
W.3.1.B: Provide reasons that support the opinion.
W.3.1.D: Provide a concluding statement or section.
W.3.4: With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are
appropriate to task and purpose
W.3.5: With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by
planning, revising, and editing.
W.3.8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief
notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.
Activating Strategy: Review Daily Grammar editing with morning work.

Tuesday:

Teaching Strategy:
1. The students will divide into Charleston Groups and write their rough draft of their paragraph.
2. Set a timer and give the groups 15-20 minutes to write their rough draft.
Summarizing Strategy:
After the timer finishes, allow students to share their work.
Activating Strategy: Review Daily Grammar editing with morning work.

Wednesday:

Teaching Strategy:
1. The students will divide into their Charleston groups and read each other their paragraph.
2. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes to allow the students time to share.
Summarizing Strategy:
The teacher will review and ask the students about the suggestions they gave each other.
Activating Strategy: Review Daily Grammar editing with morning work.

Thursday:

Teaching Strategy:
1. The students will rewrite their paragraphs (based on the Charleston trip) and based on the suggestions
that the other students gave them from the day before.
2. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes and allow the students time to rewrite their paragraphs.
Summarizing Strategy:
After the timer finishes, allow students to share their work.
Activating Strategy: Review Daily Grammar editing with morning work.

Friday:

Teaching Strategy:
1. The students will have a writing conference with the teacher and rewrite their paragraphs and hand in
their final copy.
2. Give the students time to conference with the teacher and write their paragraphs.
Summarizing Strategy:
The teacher will show review with the students the writing process they took to write their paragraphs.
Activating Strategy: Review Daily Grammar editing with morning work.

2. Allow the students one more chance to change errors.
