Have snow (real or fake) in a jar.

Have student estimate which jar

has more snow. Compare this to paper snow flakes that they have
made (place these into a jar). Have students explain to you why the
jar of real snow has more snow flakes than the paper ones.
At the end of the unit, compare the snow days, to rainy days, and
then to snow days. Keep a visual record in the classroom for the
students to study everyday. Have students tell each other which
group they think have more and why.

Students will be
graded based on
their ability to
tell the why/how
of the question.
Students will
either get one or
two points with
two being able
to tell us
why/how.
