__X__ strength and competency in this standard
Evidence to support attainment of this standard:
Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
In the preschool setting we teach using Projects of Study or Study Themes. This lesson plan is from
a study we did about oceans.
C.-The lesson plan shows how we read books about ocean animals, the students learned about
ocean animals in small groups, and the bottom of the lesson plan shows what things were in the
centers that week. The center activities even incorporated the ocean theme into the different
learning areas or content areas.
D.-In this lesson plan the students are identifying and ordering calendar pieces to learn about
numbers and counting in the math content area. This is an appropriate strategy for learning
because the students are familiar with calendar pieces and can work together in their small group to
organize the numerals.
Reflection on artifact (what went right, what went wrong, how to make better):
The weekly lessons work well if there is a connection from one activity to the next because it
provides repetition throughout the day, and the students understand the content easier when the
connection is made. Also, keeping the theme streamlined throughout all of the different learning
areas helps keep the students interested in learning about the topic. One student who enjoys math
activities and another who enjoys sensory activities are both still engaged in the learning topic
through different content or interest areas.
