This document provides instructions for setting up virtual machines and configuring the Hyper-V host for a workshop on administering and troubleshooting Exchange Server 2013. It involves creating two virtual networks in Hyper-V, assigning static IP addresses, downloading and importing virtual machines, installing remote desktop software, and taking a snapshot of the virtual machines before the workshop begins.

The VMs Requires Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V 1. On Hyper-V Manager, create 2 new Virtual Networks as follows: a. Name: Internal_1, Connection type: Internal only b. Name: Private_1, Connection type: Private virtual machine network 2. On the host machine, assign a static IP address to the network adapter associated with the Internal_1 virtual network adapter. This will enable to host to communicate with the VMs: a. IP Address: 10.0.0.254 b. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 c. Default Gateway: none d. DNS: none 3. Download and extract the Virtual Machines from \\wplus\Materials\Workshops\WorkshopPLUSExchange_Server_2013_Administration_and_Troubleshooting\VMs 4. Import the virtual machines into Hyper-V
5. On the host machine download and install RDCMan from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21101 6. On the host machine, copy the file \\wplus\Materials\Workshops\WorkshopPLUSExchange_Server_2013_Administration_and_Troubleshooting\Lab_Docs\PFELA BS.rdg and save the it on the hosts Desktop
3 Preparing the Virtual Machines
1. Start the DC1 VM only and wait until it loads 2. On the Hyper-V host, start Command Prompt and ping 10.0.0.1 to verify that the host can ping successfully the DC1 VM 3. On Hyper-V Manager, start the remaining VMs 4. Open the PFELABs.rdg on the Desktop and connect to all VMs 5. On each VM, go to Services.msc and ensure that all services with Startup set to Automatic are started 6. Logoff from all VMs 7. Close RDCMan 8. Go to Hyper-V Manager 9. Select ALL Virtual Machines and create a new Snapshot (you must create a new Snapshot of all VMs at once) 10.Close Hyper-V Manager
