Chapter 4: Support Your Students

4:15-4:30 Meet in the library
4:30-5:00 Discussion: First have your group share their key words/terms that they
picked. Remember to use this to facilitate a discussion (did anyone else picked that
word? Any connections? Does anyone have a response to this? Questions about
their term? Why did you select that word? Can you tell me more?). We want to stay
away from just having a one by one share out and rather use this strategy to have a
dialogue. (Remember the use of parallel pedagogy).
If you have additional time, see below for questions.
1.

In what way do we plan for students to fail and how can we plan for their
success instead?

2.

What are the four essential elements of a proactive intervention plan and
which do you believe is the most critical to the success of a plan?

3.

Why is getting the right answer sometimes not an indication of a student's

understanding?

4.

What is the key to gradually removing support?

5.

How are the supports we should put in place for advanced students similar to
the supports we have in place for struggling students?

6.

What is your current process for supporting struggling students and how do
you need to adjust it to be more proactive?

5:00-5:30. Share out. I will connect to different checking for understanding

strategies, which is crucial when knowing when and how to support our students
BEFORE the end of unit or six week assessment.
